Lieutenant John Lee Wilton VI was born to privilege. He was raised in a fine home in a country club outside of Dallas. He had the best toys, the best clothes and went to the best schools. He worked hard and studied hard, that was what was expected by his loving parents. All this being said he did have one serious shortcoming. Living the life of the privileged he didn’t come in contact with those that had to use common sense to survive. His common sense was severely lacking. It was this shortcoming that ruined his plans to go to Harvard to get his MBA and instead got him sent to Vietnam to get his DD214. Fortunately for him and the men under his command he was a quick study. He turned out to be a good platoon leader even though he didn’t follow the rules as closely as perhaps he should have. He felt his job was to keep his men alive, at that he wasn’t entirely successful. He never was able to forgive himself for that and spent the rest of his life trying to understand how he could have done things better. The twist and turns in his life led him to a unique solution for his acute combat stress (think PTSD). His solution probably wouldn’t work for any other combat vet but it does show that if we look hard enough perhaps we can find a way that will work for us. V.E. Galt

I love books like this that come as a surprise...
I enjoy historical fiction, but Vietnam War stories aren't my thing. I've had to study it in school which dredged up memories of news reports from my childhood. I was horrified by the Vietnam war. Why would I want to read about it again? For some reason I did and found a gem. A privileged young man shipped off to fight. The grit and camaraderie, the confusion and honor, the guns and wounds are all there. Being sent home injured, starting a new life, the failures and the nightmares and all that follows. Through it all the family and its generations struggling to accept the impact of war on the human soul, both failing and succeeding to find a way to survive.

This wonderful book was a gift from a friend. I rarely read books ( I prefer movies). This was a great book about an unhappy chapter in the history of America. I loved the author's detailed telling of the story. This book should be made into a movie.
"Vietnam Warrior Missing in Action" is an engaging first novel written by Victor Edward Galt. The story unfolds from the journal entries of Lt. John Lee Wilton VI as he enters the Army during the Vietnam War era. The battles and war injuries which forever changed his life are vividly described, bringing the reader from the front lines to the aftermath of a broken spirit. Forsaking the privileged upbringing from which he came, Lt. Wilton fights both his inner and outer demons which relentlessly haunt him in life. A real page turner, the book is guaranteed to engage the reader from the very beginning to the very end.
This is the story of a privileged all American boy thrust into the front lines of an unpopular war and his battle to overcome not only physical wounds, but, deep psychological scars. Ironically, it's the earthy values of the Native Americans that reach out to save this soldiers life. The author's easy writing style and attention to detail puts you right beside the soldier on the front lines, you will feel his tragic losses, his pain, his addictions and mental instability. You will also take an unbelievable trip to an mostly unknown American land called the reservation.

More importantly after reading this book - You will better understand why it is so important to say THANK YOU to our service men and women. These are the people who sacrifice their lives, in several different ways, to ensure our freedom.
Loved this read. Very engaging and written from an unexpected perspective. A keeper
